Résumé de l'éditeur

Beautiful, flirtatious, and recently widowed, Lady Susan Vernon seeks an advantageous second marriage for herself, while attempting to push her daughter into a dismal match. This is a magnificently crafted novel of Regency manners and mores that will delight Austen enthusiasts with its wit and elegant expression.

Very Enjoyable!

This very short epistolary novel is known as Jane Austen’s first work though it was published many decades after her death.

Its major theme of matchmaking and its polished style are typical of the author.

The fact the novel can easily be wholly grasped in a couple of hours is not and is certainly appealing in our present day and age.

However, the major difference from what the reader expects from Jane Austen lies in the fact however that the main character is by no means mild and romantic but conniving and ambitious. This, combined with the epistolary structure that provides a variety of points of view for the same events, makes the work highly entertaining.
